Yoron Island Trip
Went out to Yoron island this weekend. Cool place. I small island north of Okinawa, it actually doesn't belong to the Ryukyu Island chain, but is seperate and full of extrememly nice island people. We boarded a LARGE ship and took a few hours to get there, then our shuttle took us to our hotel. We all rented mopeds and tore the island up. It was an extremely quite island (till we got there) and had amazingly beautiful scenery and water. We ate at a kewl little restaurant named Seaside Avenue. Delicious. Saturday night we were in the lobby and i had brought a couple bottles of rum, Michelle brought Corona & Debbie had brought Heineken. We were tearing it up and the guy that worked at the hotel gave us a HUGE bottle of Yoron Sake(or Shochu) to drink. Good stuff. We learned from earlier in the day at a preserved original "village huts" that the Yoron sake was made with rice(as usual) and brown sugar. Was real good. Also while we were there we got to try some food that was delicious. A sorta pancake thing that was made from wheat and brown sugar, and 2 different styled prepared papaya, some brown sugar candy, and some delicious green tea. There was so much to see, and we had a blast seeing it all from our mopeds zooming all over the island, that i'm sure the pictures speak louder then words.
